Tawqeer Rashid is a Consultant Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon based in Manchester, with close to 30 years of experience treating the full spectrum of vascular conditions. For patients with varicose veins, he offers a comprehensive range of modern minimally invasive treatments including endovenous laser ablation, radiofrequency ablation, mechanochemical ablation (ClariVein), foam sclerotherapy and microsclerotherapy for thread veins, all performed with minimal amounts of local anaesthetic.
He grew up in West Yorkshire and read medicine at the University of Cambridge before moving to the Hammersmith Hospitals in London for his foundational surgical training. He then completed a PhD at University College London, focusing on tissue engineering, before returning to Yorkshire for higher surgical training. During that period he was appointed the first ever National Institute of Health Research Clinical Lecturer in Vascular Surgery, based at the University of Leeds, a distinction that reflects both his academic standing and his commitment to advancing the field.
His final year of training was spent in Adelaide, Australia, developing advanced endovascular skills with a particular focus on diabetic foot disease and limb salvage. Since returning to the UK he has held a consultant post at Manchester Royal Infirmary and an honorary senior lectureship at the University of Manchester, where his research has examined the role of stem cells and progenitor cells in the healing of diabetic foot wounds.
Tawqeer Rashid is the Training Programme Director for Vascular Surgery in the North West of England, responsible for shaping how the next generation of vascular surgeons are trained across the region. He has developed surgical skills workshops for trainees, lectured medical students and is a regular invited speaker at national and international conferences.
Patients describe him consistently as a careful listener who takes the time to explain conditions and options clearly, leaving them feeling genuinely informed and at ease.
