UK Vein Care is part of Europe’s leading specialist group for varicose vein treatment. Together with our clinics in Denmark, Sweden, Norway and the Netherlands, we run 58 clinics across five European countries and have completed more than 55,000 treatments since 2016.
That position has not been built by being a large, general health clinic with many specialisms. It has been built by doing one thing and one thing only: treating varicose veins. From day one, when we opened in the UK, that has been our sole focus.
This article explains what that means for you as a patient in the UK and why the specialisation behind our European track record produces better results.

Most private clinics in the UK offer varicose vein treatment as one of many procedures. At UK Vein Care, none of our surgeons do anything other than treat varicose veins and venous disease. That is a meaningful difference.
A Consultant Vascular Surgeon at UK Vein Care performs more varicose vein procedures per year than a generalist would carry out in an entire career. Specialist equipment, specialist protocols and a team working exclusively with venous disease all feed directly into treatment outcomes.
High-volume specialist clinics achieve better outcomes and fewer complications. This holds in cardiac surgery, in orthopaedic surgery, and it holds in varicose vein treatment.
Over 55,000 treatments since 2016. Behind that number are 55,000 individual patients, each with their own venous system, their own symptoms and their own expectations. Every case has fed into the knowledge and protocols we use today.
All treatments begin with a duplex ultrasound scan. The scan maps the venous system and shows exactly which veins are affected, where the reflux sits, and which treatment will produce the best result for your anatomy.
No two patients are identical, so our Consultant Vascular Surgeons build an individual treatment plan from the ultrasound findings rather than a standard package. That plan may include EVLA for the truncal vein, foam sclerotherapy for superficial veins, phlebectomy for visible varicosities, or a combination of all three.
EVLA is the first choice for incompetent truncal veins. A thin laser fibre is guided under ultrasound into the defective vein and seals it from within. No incision, no stitches, local anaesthetic. The procedure takes 30–60 minutes and you go home the same day.
A medical foam is injected directly into the affected vein under ultrasound guidance. The foam causes the vein to collapse and seal. No anaesthetic required. You can go home immediately and resume normal activities.
For visible, bulging surface varicosities, we remove them through very small punctures under local anaesthetic. No scarring. Often combined with EVLA in the same session.
The NHS rarely funds varicose vein treatment unless veins are causing serious complications such as bleeding, skin changes or leg ulcers. For most patients, private treatment is the most practical route to timely, specialist care.
If you hold private health insurance (PMI), treatment is typically covered when varicose veins are causing medical symptoms. Most insurers require a GP referral letter. UK Vein Care is registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and all treatments are performed by Consultant Vascular Surgeons following NICE guidelines, the same standard the NHS applies.
If you are self-funding, you receive a single fixed price at the consultation with no unexpected additions.
A consultation at UK Vein Care includes a duplex ultrasound scan, a clinical assessment by a Consultant Vascular Surgeon, and a clear treatment plan with a fixed price, all before you commit to anything.
